Client - Broadcast/Multicast

This page controls the all broadcast and multicast clients portion of Net Time Server & Client operation, and displays their current status, last synchronization time, and last synchronization result. The following table lists the possible values and their meanings for the current status and last synchronization result:

Current status InitializingIndicates that the kernel is initializing itself. The state will be displayed when the "Net Time Server & Client" or the "Net Time Server & Client Service" is starting.
IdleIndicates that the corresponding broadcast/multicast client is idle.
ReceivedIndicates that the corresponding broadcast/multicast client has received a broadcast or multicast packet. The state will be displayed for about 1 second after a broadcast or multicast packet was received.
IgnoredIndicates that the corresponding broadcast/multicast client has discarded a broadcast or multicast packet received by it due to the settings in the "Client" page or due to the permission issues in the "Broadcast/Multicast NTP/SNTP client permission" dialog box (The dialog box is only available for the NTP/SNTP broadcast/multicast client). The state will be displayed for about 1 second after a broadcast or multicast packet was discarded.
SuccessfulIndicates that using the broadcast or multicast packet received by the corresponding broadcast/multicast client to synchronize the local system clock is successful. The state will be displayed for about 1 second after a successful synhronization.
FailedIndicates that using the broadcast or multicast packet received by the corresponding broadcast/multicast client to synchronize the local system clock is unsuccessful. The state will be displayed for about 1 second after failed to synchronize the local system clock.
Service:StopThe state will be displayed if the "Net Time Server & Client Service" is installed but not started.
Service:PauseIf the "Net Time Server & Client Service" is installed, the state will be displayed when the service is paused.
Last synchronization result SuccessfulIndicates that using the broadcast or multicast packet received by the corresponding broadcast/multicast client to synchronize the local system clock is successful.
FailedIndicates that using the broadcast or multicast packet received by the corresponding broadcast/multicast client to synchronize the local system clock is unsuccessful.
IgnoredIndicates that the broadcast or multicast packet has been discarded by the corresponding broadcast/multicast client due to the settings in the "Client" page or due to the permission issues in the "Broadcast/Multicast NTP/SNTP client permission" dialog box (The dialog box is only available for the NTP/SNTP broadcast/multicast client).

The broadcast and multicast clients send no request and wait for a broadcast packet or a multicast packet from one or more broadcast/multicast servers, then use it to synchronize the system clock. In the page, you can change many of the global settings that affect broadcast and multicast clients using the NTP/SNTP, Time or UnixTime protocols. To access this "Client - Broadcast/Multicast" page, select the "Client" item then select the "Broadcast/Multicast" item from the tree menu on the lef side of the "Main window".

Listen for NTP/SNTP broadcast/multicast

Checking the box allows the broadcast/multicast client listen for the NTP/SNTP broadcast packet or multicast packet in order to synchronize the system clock.

Binding IP

Specifies the IP address that the broadcast/multicast client will use it to listen for the NTP/SNTP broadcast/multicast packet for synchronizing the system clock. Using the "0.0.0.0" binding IP address will bind to both of your network interface cards and listen for Time NTP/SNTP broadcast/multicast packet.

Listen port

Specifies the number of local UDP port that the broadcast/multicast client will use it to listen for the NTP/SNTP broadcast/multicast packet for synchronizing the system clock. By default, it's port 123.

Version

Specify the version number that's used by NTP/SNTP broadcast/multicast client, typical values include version 3 (RFC-1769), version 4 (RFC-2030) and version 4 (RFC-4330). When the "Ignore version field" box is checked in the "Client" page, the version number should match the version field in the NTP/SNTP broadcast/multicast packet sent from NTP/SNTP broadcast/multicast server, otherwise the packet will be discarded. Listen for multicast

Checking the box allows the broadcast/multicast client listen for the NTP/SNTP multicast packet in order to synchronize the system clock.

Multicast group

Specifies a class D IP address of multicast group. The broadcast/multicast client will join the multicast group to listen for the NTP/SNTP multicast packet sent to this multicast group, then use it to synchronoze the system clock.

Status

The field displays the current status of NTP/SNTP broadcast/multicast client, including "Initializing", "Idle", "Received", "Successful", "Ignored", "Failed", "Service:Stop", and "Service:Pause".

Last time

The field displays the synchronization time and synchronization result of the last synchronization using received the NTP/SNTP broadcast/multicast packet. The synchronization result includes "Successful", "Failed", and "Ignored".

Permission control...

Press the button to open the "Broadcast/Multicast NTP/SNTP client permission" dialog box. You can use the dialog box to manage a list of IP/Mask pairs, the broadcast/multicast NTP/SNTP client use the list for access control, so that only those servers known to be trusted will be accepted. Listen for Time UDP broadcast

Checking the box allows the broadcast/multicast client listen for the Time UDP broadcast packet in order to synchronize the system clock.

Binding IP

Specifies the IP address that the broadcast/multicast client will use it to listen for the Time UDP broadcast packet for synchronizing the system clock. Using the "0.0.0.0" binding IP address will bind to both of your network interface cards and listen for Time UDP broadcast packet.

Listen port

Specifies the number of local UDP port that the broadcast/multicast client will use it to listen for the Time UDP broadcast packet for synchronizing the system clock. By default, it's port 37.

Status

The field displays the current status of Time broadcast client, including "Initializing", "Idle", "Received", "Successful", "Ignored", "Failed", "Service:Stop", and "Service:Pause".

Last time

The field displays the synchronization time and synchronization result of the last synchronization using received the Time UDP broadcast packet. The synchronization result includes "Successful", "Failed", and "Ignored".

Listen for UnixTime UDP broadcast

Checking the box allows the broadcast/multicast client listen for the UnixTime UDP broadcast packet to synchronize the system clock.

Binding IP

Specifies the IP address that the broadcast/multicast client will use it to listen for the UnixTime UDP broadcast packet for synchronizing the system clock. Using the "0.0.0.0" binding IP address will bind to both of your network interface cards and listen for UnixTime UDP broadcast packet.

Listen port

Specifies the number of local UDP port that the broadcast/multicast client will use it to listen for the UnixTime UDP broadcast packet for synchronizing the system clock. By default, it's port 519.

Status

The field displays the current status of UnixTime broadcast client, including "Initializing", "Idle", "Received", "Successful", "Ignored", "Failed", "Service:Stop", and "Service:Pause"

Last time

The field displays the synchronization time and synchronization result of the last synchronization using received the UnixTime UDP broadcast packet. The synchronization result includes "Successful", "Failed", and "Ignored".

Apply

With this button you will accept and save current configuration.

Cancel

With this button you will cancel current configuration and rollback to previous one.
